pitt&sherry were engaged to provide support to BioMar as they opened a manufacturing plant.

Background

Project goal

BioMar developed a fish feed manufacturing plant in northern Tasmania to support the rapidly growing local, national and Australasian aquaculture sector.

The development consisted of:

  • A main processing building, some 38m tall, to house the main blending, extruding, drying and vacuum coating equipment
  • Redevelopment of the existing site buildings for warehousing purposes
  • Various foundations and bunded areas for silos and tanks for raw material storage
  • Heat generation via a boiler installation
  • Odour control via a biofilter and associated ducting systems.
  • An administration office
  • Associated site services, including water (potable and process), power, compressed air, steam, trade waste.

What we did

pitt&sherry were initially engaged to provide site selection services, including identification of potential sites, due diligence for the preferred site, and purchasing support. Once complete we undertook conceptual design development, importantly making the best use of existing site infrastructure and warehousing, along with geotechnical investigations and site surveys.

BioMar subsequently engaged us to fully design the facility, working closely with their preferred process suppliers to integrate the processing equipment to the building works, and placing significant emphasis on retaining as much of the existing site infrastructure and buildings as possible. pitt&sherry developed conceptual design, tender and construction issue documentation and specifications.

Outcomes

Successful provision of an integrated design for the site, including civil design, architectural and structural design for all buildings and structures, design and documentation of all process mechanical and electrical services and pipe bridges, including connection to site, fire and hydraulic services, the edible oil storage and delivery system, and design of the odour management biofilter.
