Helping clients deliver complex hydro projects

Helping clients deliver complex hydro projects

Australia's electricity grid is undergoing a significant transformation. As renewable energy grows, the grid increasingly depends on energy storage and pumped hydro energy storage is expected to play an important role in supporting that transition.

Hydro and pumped hydro energy storage projects can be among the most technically complex forms of infrastructure, requiring geotechnical, civil, structural, environmental and delivery expertise.

pitt&sherry brings relevant expertise. We have supported hydro electric generation projects across Australia including work at some of the country's most significant power station sites. We help clients understand and manage the technical, environmental and delivery challenges associated with these projects.

Deep geotechnical and underground expertise

Deep geotechnical and underground expertise

Hydro and pumped hydro projects depend on what lies beneath. Our geotechnical engineers have experience with varying ground conditions (soft soils and hard rock) and have assessed and designed over 120 km of underground infrastructure including shafts - from 1.8 m to 35 m in diameter, to depths of up to 2,000 m. This experience supports practical, technically informed advice for complex hydro and pumped hydro projects.

Working in underground and confined spaces

Working in underground and confined spaces

Hydro and pumped hydro projects frequently involve working in underground environments including shafts, tunnels and caverns. We bring direct experience of these environments, with an understanding of the hazards, controls and safe work requirements associated with underground construction and inspection activities. Where underground conditions introduce risk, ground instability, confined spaces, ventilation, or emergency egress, we seek to identify these early, so they can be eliminated where reasonably practicable or otherwise managed through design and delivery controls.
